DHS announces new efforts to support the TSA workforce

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas hasA??announcedA??newA??efforts toA??support theA??Transportation Security Administration (TSA)A??screening officerA??workforce,A??including expanding collective bargainingA??at the national levelA??andA??ensuringA??thatA??TSAsA??standards andA??processesA??adhere toA??the principlesA??applied byA??the Merit Systems Protection Board.A??A??Secretary Mayorkas also expressed the Departments commitment to improving pay for the TSA workforce.

TSA employees are outstanding public servants who work on the frontlines, including throughout the pandemic, to keep the traveling American public safe, Mayorkas said. They deserve the empowerment of collective bargaining and a compensation structure that recognizes and rewards them for their contributions to our safety and security.

MayorkasA??orderedA??these administrative actions toA??build uponA??the meaningful improvements made by TSA leadership to support the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) workforce.A??TSA will expandA??theA??collective bargaining rights of TSOsA??consistent withA??the policy expressed inA??President Bidens Executive Order 14025,A??Worker Organizing and Empowerment.

The expanded scope of bargaining willA??be similar to bargaining that occurs at other federal agencies while preserving TSAs ability to meet its critical security mission.A??A??After implementing these changes,A??TSAA??willA??workA??with the American Federation ofA??Government Employees, which represents TSAs non-supervisory TSO workforce, to reach a new collective bargaining agreement.A??
